McKendree Into the Streets took place on Sat, August 26, from 9:30 to 1 pm. The entire freshman class of McKendree University participated in doing service projects around the Metro East Area as part of their orientation week on campus. What a great way for kids to learn about community service and leadership (and the love of gardening)! The Garden Club was lucky enough to have 32 hard-working and enthusiastic students working on our projects. At the Mermaid House this included weeding and mulching the flower beds, and creating a limestone and gravel walkway between flower beds. At the cemetery the students built water berms, staked, and mulched around the 26 new trees that the garden club has planted in the last couple years. A big thank you to all the students and volunteer supervisors who came out and helped in this community service project!
The executive board has created an online survey on the interests and preferences of our members, which you should have received via your e-mail address. Thank you for taking the time to fill this out; rest assured that it is a confidential survey and we appreciate your candor. We plan to use the information we gleam from it to better plan our monthly meetings and address the priorities the garden club members would like to pursue. If you did not get a copy of this online survey, please let Jonathan or Brenda know.
